So who are we?
TELL Myanmar is an organisation run through IWA (International Women's Academy) focused on improving the standard of English teaching in Zabu Oak Shuang Nunnery, Myanmar. Our project aims to improve the standard of English teaching at the nunnery, by raising money to create a 'language lab' of resources, sending over TEFL trained teachers, and eventually setting up a sustainable teacher training programme in conjunction with British schools. We hope that by improving the student's access to their most valuable resource - english speaking people - we can make a difference to the way they learn, and provide them with opportunities they never even imagined.
...what do we do?
Zabu Oak Shuang Nunnery is located in the Thanlyin district of Yangon, the capital city of Myanmar. They provide free accommodation and education for local girls, including orphans. After finishing their education, students have a number of options; to become a full-time nun, to return home and use their education to help members of their old community, to find work in the city of Yangon, or even to go onto university. Thanks to the generosity of the nunnery's sponsors and the kindness of the nuns, university education has been a dream realised for several of Zabu's previous students.
